📖 오늘의 문법: Together with / As well as / Along with의 수일치
“and"는 두 주어를 하나로 묶어서 복수 동사를 쓰게 만들지만, together with, as well as, along with, accompanied by, in addition to 같은 표현은 겉보기엔 비슷해도 전혀 다르게 작동합니다. 이 표현들은 콤마(,) 사이에 끼워 넣는 삽입구일 뿐이라서, 동사는 삽입구를 무시하고 맨 앞의 원래 주어에만 수를 맞춥니다.
- The CEO and the manager are coming. → and는 주어를 합쳐서 복수
- The CEO, together with the manager, is coming. → together with는 삽입구, 동사는 CEO(단수)에 맞춤
- 핵심 주어가 복수면 당연히 동사도 복수: The managers, together with the CEO, are coming.
- 삽입구는 콤마로 감싸는 경우가 많아서, 글을 읽을 때 콤마 사이 내용을 잠깐 지워보면 진짜 주어가 보입니다.
- along with, as well as, accompanied by, in addition to, no less than 등도 모두 같은 규칙을 따릅니다.
💡 Tip: 헷갈릴 땐 삽입구를 통째로 지워보세요. 남는 주어가 동사의 수를 결정합니다.
