📖 오늘의 문법: Separable vs Inseparable Phrasal Verbs — 구동사, 쪼개도 되는 놈 vs 안 되는 놈
- 구동사(phrasal verb)는 동사 + 부사/전치사(particle) 구조인데, 목적어를 어디에 놓을 수 있는지가 종류마다 다름
- Separable (분리 가능):
turn off,pick up,put away처럼 목적어가 명사면 중간/뒤 둘 다 가능하지만, 목적어가 대명사(it, him, her…)면 반드시 중간에 와야 함- ✅ turn off the lights / turn the lights off / turn them off
- ❌ turn off them
- Inseparable (분리 불가능):
run into,look after,get over처럼 목적어가 명사든 대명사든 항상 구동사 뒤에 붙어야 함- ✅ run into my coworker / run into her
- ❌ run my coworker into
- 판별법(Tip): “동사 + it” 형태로 중간에 끼워봤을 때 어색하지 않으면 separable, 어색하면 inseparable
💡 Tip: 헷갈릴 때는 대명사 테스트! “~ it” 을 구동사 한가운데 넣어보고 자연스러우면 분리 가능, 문법책이 비명 지르면 분리 불가능이에요.
